Course Review
The Good: Hawk’s View in Lake Geneva, WI is best known for its gorgeous Como Crossing regulation course, but I was pleasantly surprised with the beauty, variety & conditioning of their Par 3 course, Barn Hollow. Ranging from 106 to 215 yards, this short course has great variety in design and can be very demanding, particularly in the wind. Just a short walk from the nice clubhouse, the course conditions were excellent and the greens putt fairly well considering I played in mid-March. Excellent value at $15 to walk 18-holes.
The Bad: Limited service considering 1) it’s a short course and 2) it was in the midst of social distancing during Covid-19. Not much elevation changes except for the 9th hole.
The Verdict: While Barn Hollow doesn’t quite have the scenic views of its regulation-sized sibling, it’s one of the better conditioned and fun short courses that I’ve played in the greater Chicago/southern Wisconsin area. Well-worth the trip if you only have a couple hours or if you want a warm-up before you tackle the main course.
Best Hole: The 9th on Barn Hollow is the standout. A 200-yard, downhill Par-3 that must navigate water left and considerable wind since it’s the highest point on the course.
